In the past years, the flooring industry has seen a huge shift toward hard surface flooring in homes. Especially in those common, well used, high traffic rooms. We rarely see carpet in a living room, family room, or dining room any more, but we still want to keep these relaxing spaces warm and cozy. The answer for this is an area rug.

Area rugs are often preferred over carpet for high traffic areas in more ways than one! They are much easier to clean, can be replaced if needed at a fraction of the cost, and don’t require professional installation. Besides these benefits, you can feel confident to decorate with bold new trends in patterns and colours, at a lower investment than wall to wall carpet. Area rugs are often that final piece needed to tie a room’s decor together. Some customers even opt for ‘seasonal’ area rugs, switching between rugs from season to season.

There is a trick to area rugs though. How do you know what size area rug to choose? If you don’t know, you’re not alone. Many people don’t! Our Interior Decorator, Dorothy says, “Each space is unique. A good rule of thumb is, the front edge of the main pieces of furniture in your room, should sit a couple of inches into the edge of the area rug.” Bring us your measurements, and one of our interior decorators can help you pick an area rug the correct size for your space. If we don’t have an area rug in stock that is the size you need, we can order you a custom one!
